Remember in high school when boys would have a brawl over that one girl they both liked?
You probably believed that it was a prime example of what “actual” competition looks like.
But now that you’re much older and have a business, you see how competition is in the REAL world.
You see your competitors bring in more and more customers.
You notice your repeating customers are now heading over to your competitor's facility.
Your revenue starts to tank.
You start working tirelessly for a solution and can’t seem to find any success.
It’s almost like WAR. They bring their swarm of soldiers and you work to find a way around the attack.
So you may ask:
“How can I outperform my competition?”
Nobody wants their competitors to do better than them right?
You want to be at the TOP.
You want to make the MOST money.
In the rest of this article you’ll learn a simple, yet effective tactic that’ll make ANY competitor look like a midget.
Every Business Does The Same Thing
The way people consume content nowadays is almost like a continuous loop of swallowing food without ever biting it.
And if they find good food, they smell it, taste it, bite it - they do ALLLLL the things necessary to make sure that they get the full pleasure of that food.
When it comes to marketing, people are shown a barrage of message after message after message from thousands of businesses looking to get their attention.
It NEVER ends.
So you need to find out how you and your marketing can cut through that clutter.
You need to make sure that the food is good enough that they actually smell it, taste it, bite it, etc., etc., etc.
Now, if you look at any local business, you’ll quickly realize that they all say roughly the same thing.
Here and there you’ll see minuscule improvements.
But that’s a maybe. Majority of the time, they all say the same thing. Here’s an example:
If you’re a dentist, you’ve probably heard one of your competitors say something like:
“Our goal is to help you achieve your brightest smile”
OR
“We personalize our care to each patient’s needs, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience”
Some practices may say these differently but it’s pretty much the same.
And I just listed one business with two examples. This applies to almost ANY local business.
What McDonald’s Did And Why You Should Do The Same
Do you know how McDonald’s got the idea of the drive-thru?
They got it from banks!
No, they didn’t create this idea.
Banks created it for roughly the same reason as McDonald’s - so that customers could complete transactions without leaving their cars.
McDonalds took this idea from another industry and applied it to theirs and suddenly it became a breakthrough.
What McDonald’s did with the drive-thru is a prime example of a Unique Selling Proposition (USP).
To create a USP you need to do these 2 things:
Not say/do the same thing as all your competitors. McDonald’s competitors would have everyone walk up and order in the store.
Say/do something that makes your prospective customers sit up. In the case of McDonald’s: “Oh wow, this is interesting! So all I have to do is sit in my car and I’ll have my food be brought to me? That’s awesome!”
If you can implement a USP into your marketing, you’ll NEVER have to worry about your competitors.
The war will become a quiet shore.
And instead of waiting for them,
all those customers will come rushing at your door waiting for YOU.
One and Done
You know the best thing about a USP?
It’s the fact that once you create it, you won’t have to create another one.
It’s amazing!
Do you think McDonalds had to implement a whole another USP?
No, that was all they needed to make them STAND OUT.
They’re now “Unique”.
And if you REALLY want to win this war against your competitors, you WILL need a USP.
It’s the only way to make crowds of people walk towards your facility like the zombies from The Walking Dead.
Now if you go and try to make a USP, you may realize that you don’t have the time to plan, create, test, update, and execute it.
So if you’re in that position or you’re just trying to scale your business and need help with your marketing, I highly recommend you book a free consultation here and we’ll discuss whether or not we can help you.
